Job summary

Northwest Texas Healthcare System in Amarillo, part of Universal Health Services, seeks a Phlebotomy/Point of Care Coordinator who will oversee phlebotomy and POCT operations, ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and high-quality patient care.

You will lead training, monitor quality, collaborate with nursing and medical staff, and drive process improvements while supporting system-wide standardization and rollout of new testing platforms.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology; bachelor’s preferred.
  • Minimum five years of clinical laboratory experience, preferably in phlebotomy services.
  • Certification: ASCP, National Phlebotomy Association, or other recognized certification.
  • Must meet CLIA ’88 personnel requirements.
  • Math, computer, reasoning, and language skills at undergraduate/graduate level.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of daily operations of phlebotomy services, outpatient and off-site phlebotomy locations, and POCT programs.
  • Ensures compliance with CAP, CLIA’88, Joint Commission, and other regulatory standards.
  • Develops, maintains, and updates policies, procedures, and competency assessments for phlebotomy and POCT.
  • Coordinates training, competency, and ongoing education for POCT operators and phlebotomy staff.
  • Monitors quality indicators, investigates variances, and implements corrective actions to improve safety and performance.
  • Leads or participates in departmental and hospital-wide quality, safety, and performance improvement projects.
  • Supports pre-analytical quality processes, including specimen integrity, labeling accuracy, and workflow optimization.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director and Technical Coordinators regarding analytical issues, troubleshooting, and clinical concerns
