Job summary

PathGroup in the United States is seeking a Patient Services Technician to support the PSC and PST duties, performing daily patient service activities accurately and on time.

The role involves professional interaction with clients and patients, phlebotomy, specimen collection and processing, accurate data entry, and adherence to safety procedures.

You will maintain records, assist with monthly statistics, and uphold privacy, security, and corporate policies in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• Greets customers appropriately.
• Ensures all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
• Collects specimens according to established procedures.
• Explains in a clear but courteous manner the venipuncture process and other specimen collection as required.

Responsibilities

• Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.
• Completes requisitions accurately in PathConnect and/or other Pathgroup computer applications.
• Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer.
• Researches test/client information utilizing lab computer system.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Packages specimens for transport.
• Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, labels, and protocol for transport to maintain integrity.
• Maintains required records and documentation.
• Maintains PSC/IOPST logs.
• Assists with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
• Performs basic clerical duties, i.e. filing, faxing, and preparing mail; performs electronic data entry.
• Approves time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the pay period.
• Demonstrates organizational commitment.
• Adheres to grooming, dress code and lab coat policies.
• Utilizes time appropriately and manages fluctuating patient flow.
• Displays courteous and professional behavior to clients, patients, and co-workers.
• Answers the telephone in a friendly and helpful manner with proper company identification.
• Performs duties independently and communicates issues to supervision.
• Contributes to a positive work climate and team effort.
• Keeps facilities neat, clean and in good repair; reports maintenance needs.
• Assists with periodic inventory counts and reports shortages.
• Utilizes PPE to ensure safety; follows lab safety precautions.
• Follows industry best security practices to protect PHI and sensitive data.
• Familiar with and adheres to Corporate Compliance Program and privacy/security policies.
