Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood and other specimens in outpatient and inpatient settings. Under supervision, you will obtain samples for routine and specialized tests, register patients, and transport specimens following universal precautions.

Responsibilities include scheduling venipunctures, verifying patient identity, preparing specimens, and maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy certification or internship with 100 venipunctures.
• 6 months phlebotomy experience acceptable in lieu of internship.
• 5+ years phlebotomy experience may be considered in lieu of certification.

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood samples via venipuncture or capillary puncture.
• Register patients and order tests with demographics and insurance details.
• Prepare and document specimens for testing and transport.
• Schedule venipunctures and ensure correct timing and labeling.
• Follow universal precautions and hospital policies for specimen handling.
• Maintain records and assist with clerical tasks as needed.
