Job summary

UMass Memorial Health seeks a Lab Support Tech I to perform phlebotomy duties, specimen handling, and clerical tasks in a dynamic hospital setting. The role requires attention to detail, patient interaction, and collaboration with the Lab and Nursing teams.

Responsibilities include specimen collection, receiving and labeling, computer-driven test ordering, and providing general lab support across site locations. A high school diploma and phlebotomy experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience and ability to perform blood collection across age groups.
• Proficient computer and typing skills for test ordering and specimen tracking.
• Fluent English communication with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples using venipuncture per protocol.
• Receive and label specimens accurately in the system.
• Maintain organized work area and restock supplies.
• Register courier-delivered specimens and troubleshoot printers.
• Order tests using hospital information systems and test dictionaries.
• Answer and transfer calls; provide coverage for incoming calls.
• Perform heel sticks and PKU collections as needed.
• Provide support across offsite locations with flexible hours.
