Job summary

GBMC HealthCare's Phlebotomy Lab Assistant role provides phlebotomy/accessioning services, collects and processes specimens, and conveys lab information and reports to customers under direct supervision.

Requires High School diploma and at least 6 months of phlebotomy or accessioning experience. The role emphasizes accurate documentation, patient safety, donor screening, and ongoing education within a supportive team at GBMC.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; 6 months phlebotomy experience or 6 months laboratory accessioning experience.

Responsibilities

• Extracts blood from patients and performs phlebotomy procedures according to aseptic technique.
• Document all phlebotomy rounds and outpatient calls with accuracy.
• Enter accurate patient demographics, orders, and verify specimen receipt.
• Process specimens for testing including labeling, measuring, aliquoting, centrifuging, and distribution.
• Perform Quality EKGs and complete demographic information.
• Screen and interview donors; manage donor room QC daily; follow universal precautions.
• Ensure timely specimen transport and lab submission.
• Maintain supplies, equipment, and associated documentation.
