Job summary

GBMC HealthCare is seeking a Senior Lab Assistant to receive, accession, and process pathology specimens. You will provide laboratory reports to customers and assist in training Phlebotomy staff. The role involves scheduling, specimen preparation, and ensuring accuracy in documentation and workflow.

The position requires a high school diploma and at least two years of clinical lab experience, with a focus on accuracy, customer service, and teamwork to support laboratory operations.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent required.
• 2 years clinical laboratory work experience.

Responsibilities

• Enters patient demographic information, laboratory tests orders, and verifies collection/receipt of specimens with completeness and accuracy.
• Assigns daily workload and ensures adequate coverage including ON-Call schedule with supervisor approval.
• Assists in orienting and training of new employees.
• Prepares and processes specimens for testing: labeling, measuring, aliquoting, centrifuging, and distributing to the proper work area.
• Assists with development/revision of work procedures and evaluation of staff.
• Assists during computer downtime and ensures staff know procedures.
• Implements competency testing and ensures timely completion for all staff.
• Ensures samples are accurate for referral testing and that referral documentation is complete.
• Reviews unreceived reports daily and participates in continuing education.
