Qualifications

• 6 months of phlebotomy experience or 6 months related laboratory accessioning experience
• High School education required
• Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to laboratory work
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written
• Proficiency with computers and basic productivity software
• Ability to type and perform basic arithmetic
• Ability to comfort and reassure patients during procedures

Responsibilities

• Extracts blood from patients and performs phlebotomy procedures according to aseptic venipuncture technique
• Detailed documentation for all phlebotomy rounds and outpatient recalls
• Enter accurate patient demographics, lab test orders, and verify specimen receipt in system (Meditech)
• Prepare and process specimens: labeling, measuring, aliquoting, centrifuging, distribute to labs
• Perform quality EKGs and ensure complete demographic information
• Ensure donor processes (where applicable) follow protocol with two identifiers and safety measures
