Job summary

TriCore Reference Laboratories is seeking a Clinical Lab Assistant - Phlebotomist at UNM Cancer Center. This hourly role requires independent work with supervision when needed. Compensation varies by modalities performed; a paid apprenticeship may be offered for candidates without experience.

Regular attendance during scheduled hours is essential. The position supports a schedule Monday–Friday 10:00–18:00 with additional shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent is required.
• PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred.
• Completion of a Clinical Lab Assistant program preferred.
• Immunization against Hepatitis B or waiver option required.
• Valid driver's license and ability to work in a health care facility.
• Shifts include evenings, weekends, holidays and on-call as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties in a professional and courteous manner.
• Maintain supplies and inventory necessary for departmental functions.
• Observe students and new staff as needed.
• Demonstrate basic problem solving to ensure patient care and service levels.
• Handle hospital communications, including on-call responsibilities by location.
• Demonstrate effective telephone and verbal communication skills.
• Use professional judgment with clients, patients and co-workers.
• Perform clerical duties including documenting call-ins when supervisor is absent.
• Maintain confidentiality of information.
