Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent and specialized training in phlebotomy.
• Phlebotomy certification with the National Phlebotomy Association or American Society of Clinical Pathology; CPR certification preferred; requires travel to various sites.
• Preferred: one year of experience in an acute care facility in an equivalent role.

Responsibilities

• Determines and executes the best method for obtaining biological specimens from patients of all ages, including venipuncture, capillary, and heel-stick when needed.
• Maintains laboratory supplies inventory and orders tests in the LIS as requested by authorized providers.
• Maintains a safe, clean work environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Conserves resources by proper use of equipment and performing maintenance as needed.
• Verifies patient identification and manages registration details such as demographics and insurance.
• Supports inter- and intra-departmental workflow and participates in the laboratory quality program.
• Participates in training of new staff and students as a mentor and technical resource.
