Job summary

The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inc. in Abilene, TX is seeking a Phlebotomist to draw blood from patients in a correctional hospital facility and perform routine phlebotomy using aseptic technique.

You will monitor specimen collection containers, document with the EMR, maintain temperature logs, and support the Managed Care team in achieving quality standards. Shift: Day, M-F, 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 1 year related experience or training, or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy knowledge and aseptic technique.

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy as required using aseptic techniques.
  • Maintains specimen collection containers by monitoring expiration dates.
  • Reports abnormal findings or processing errors to the charge nurse.
  • Checks and ensures laboratory equipment is functioning and maintains a temperature log.
  • Uses Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance monitoring for laboratory equipment.
  • Orders and maintains laboratory supplies.
  • Prepares specimens for collection and testing.
  • Contributes to the goals of the Managed Care team.
  • Responds to requests in a timely manner and attends unit meetings.

  • Effectively participates in the overall goals of the ManagedCare team.
