Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX seeks a Correctional Nursing Assistant to provide basic nursing care under supervision and support the care team throughout shifts.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma with CNA training or related experience, and CPR certification may be preferred. The role is full-time, day shift, with pay based on institutional scales and benefits. TTUHSC offers health plans, PTO, retirement plans, and wellness programs.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a nursing assistant training course or six months experience as a nursing assistant or completion of a Patient Care Technician course.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing care under supervision of a licensed nurse or physician.
  • Measure vital signs, glucose, and weights; report abnormalities to the primary nurse.
  • Conduct EKGs as needed and monitor skin integrity and signs of pressure injury.
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment by managing sharps, fridge temps, meals, and glucometer calibration.
  • Assist with supply management and inventory rotation.
  • Follow infection control protocols and keep areas clean.
  • Support the care team during emergencies and assist in other areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor to support efficient unit operation.

This position is responsible for provision of basic nursing careand services that are performed under the direct supervision of alicensed nurse or physician in a correctional institution.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Perform patient-specific care tasks such as assisting withhygiene, linen changes, repositioning, ambulation, and feeding.Measure and record vital signs, blood glucose levels, and weights;promptly report abnormalities to the primary nurse.
  • Conduct EKGs as needed and report any changes in skin integrityor signs of pressure injury.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment by checkingand replacing sharps containers, monitoring refrigeratortemperatures, passing ice, and assisting with patient meals. Cleanand calibrate glucometers and report any unsafe or unsecuredequipment or environmental hazards.
  • Assist with supply management by restocking items under theguidance of the Charge Nurse, monitoring inventory, and rotatingstock to ensure items remain within expiration dates.
  • Follow infection control protocols by ensuring proper equipmentstorage, cleaning shared spaces such as the break room and nurses’station, and assisting with patient room cleaning.
  • Take initiative in supporting the care team, includingassisting nurses during emergencies and volunteering to help inother areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to supportefficient unit operation and high-quality patient care.
