Job summary

CSL plasma center in Topeka, KS is seeking a Plasma Collection Technician to perform venipuncture and oversee the pheresis process ensuring donor safety and product quality. You will follow SOPs and FDA guidelines while delivering a positive donor experience.

Responsibilities include donor setup, monitoring, and disconnect, plus accurate recording of donor data. A high school diploma is required; healthcare experience is preferred, with California centers having stricter certification rules

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 12 months experience in a medical/health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• California centers require either Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certification or being a Current Registered Nurse in California.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture and monitoring the pheresis process per SOPs.
• Performs all aspects of pheresis and plasma collection including donor setup, monitoring, and disconnect.
• Evaluates donor vein performance and makes necessary corrections to expedite donation and ensure safety and product quality.
• Educates new donors on the use of therapeutic products from donated plasma and explains screening and health tests, appointment system, and policies.
• Maintains alertness to donor reactions and assists with reactions or notifies staff as needed.
• Uses PDA to record incidents during pheresis (machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, adverse events).
• Performs calibrations and maintenance as outlined in SOPs; responds to complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
• Troubleshoots equipment failures and creates incident documentation; replaces equipment as needed.
• Monitors donor flow and ensures continuous turnover; notifies supervisor of flow issues.
• Collects arm samples or whole blood samples for testing; records donor data in the donor information system.
• Follows HSE and OSHA policies; maintains a clean, safe workplace and ensures supplies.
• Maintains donor, personnel, and center information confidentiality.
• May be cross-trained in other areas; bilingual skills may be required.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
