This entry-level role requires little to no prior experience, with work following standard procedures and close supervision.

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, this role performs pharmacy-related functions to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee performs routine tasks in preparation for becoming a licensed Pharmacy Technician.

Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician Registration
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of pharmacy-related experience
Duties and Responsibilities

The following are general responsibilities and not an exhaustive list. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Assist in preparing and dispensing medications according to policies and procedures.
  2. Accurately pick medications for automated dispensing cabinets.
  3. Prepare sterile products aseptically using proper techniques and maintain cleanliness.
  4. Fill remote orders accurately as checked by a pharmacist.
  5. Maintain storeroom supplies, ensure timely ordering, and remove outdated medications.
  6. Restock medications in automated dispensing cabinets promptly and accurately.
  7. Manage emergency medication inventories, including ordering, restocking, and documenting.
  8. Maintain medication rooms and remove expired medications.
  9. Empty return bins in automated dispensing cabinets weekly.
  10. Use the unit-dose machine for packaging medications following standard procedures.
  11. Perform cycle counts and maintain records.
  12. Keep the pharmacy clean and organized, caring for equipment.
  13. Conduct temperature inspections of medication refrigerators.
  14. Inspect medication storage areas monthly and maintain records.
  15. Greet and assist customers and participate in point-of-sale transactions.
  16. Provide customer assistance over the phone and triage calls.
  17. Complete work accurately and timely, ensuring quality control.
  18. Communicate effectively with healthcare staff and maintain positive relationships.
  19. Foster teamwork and a positive work environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk and stand most of the day, lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Frequent reaching, grasping, pushing, and manual dexterity.
  • Good vision for medications, screens, and reports.
  • Work in areas with dust, dirt, temperature changes, and potential chemical exposure.
