Position Summary:
Assists pharmacists in the drug distribution process.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Counts, packages, pre-packages, and labels medication for inspection by pharmacist and fills routine orders for non-prescription pharmaceuticals.
- Inputs patient and prescription data into the pharmacy computer system to process prescriptions and maintains patient profiles.
- Maintains pharmacy automation machines including blister packs, robotics, and counting machines.
- Accesses medication history within patient electronic records and communicates with providers and healthcare team through secure EHR systems.
- Assists and serves patients.
- Assists in the ordering, stocking, and maintenance of drug inventory.
- Bills and adjudicates prescription claims.
- Prepares reports and written documentation as required by department, company, state, and federal agencies.
- Uses Microsoft Office to generate reports for organizational communication.
- Utilizes different platforms to communicate and organize delivery services and/or mail orders.
- Assists pharmacists as directed.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains and submits orders to ensure adequate inventory of supplies, forms, and equipment.
- Maintains proper training and education for 340B program compliance.
- Follows departmental policies, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Participates in educational programs, literature review, meetings, and workshops for professional growth.
- Attends meetings and participates on committees as directed.
- Works at different SYH locations as necessary.
- Assists in medication package reconciliation and provides pharmaceutical services, including handling patient refill requests and prescription deliveries at various day centers within legal scope.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years as a Pharmacy Technician.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED and completion of a Pharmacy Technician program.
Certifications:
- CA Board of Pharmacy Technician license.
Skills:
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish or English/Arabic) preferred with excellent communication skills.
Technical Knowledge:
- Familiarity with Medi-Cal Program preferred.
- Experience with medical terminology and pharmacy automation machines.
Equipment Used:
- Personal Computer, pharmacy software, Parata Max 2, OmniCell, Kirby Lester Machines.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking. Occasional lifting. Some evening and Saturday work may be required.
- Rotations for Saturday coverage.
- Possible driving and travel.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Universal Requirements:
Pre-employment screening including I-9, physical, background check, references, application, orientation, and PPDs. Compliance with vaccination policies is mandatory.
