Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care, is hiring a 50% Pharmacy Technician, Trainee or Certified to work in Acute Care, Central Pharmacy. Under pharmacist supervision, you will perform dispensing-related technical activities and assist with training and supervision as needed.

The role includes rotating 8-hour shifts and weekends with days off. Qualified candidates may be considered as Trainee Technician or Certified Technician depending on qualifications, with

Qualifications

• Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at the time of hire.
• National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Must meet ongoing education requirements and maintain certification.
• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Any combination of two years of post-high school experience and/or education in the natural sciences OR satisfactory completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.

Responsibilities

• Perform activities related to inventory maintenance in satellites and dispensing areas.
• Review pharmacy medication inventory for expired medications.
• Maintain medication inventory levels according to established par levels when available.
• Manage inpatient Epic In-Baskets including printing labels, determining quantities, preparing medications, labeling, documentation, and discharge lists.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas and return unused medications.
• Ensure medication security in patient care units and proper storage of controlled substances.
