Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Lead to manage the produce, meat, dairy, bakery, and related perishables. You will assist the Store Manager with inventory, merchandising, pricing, and customer service while ensuring safety and compliance with food handling rules.

Role requires strong organizational skills, ability to train staff on perishable presentation and safety, and focus on reducing markdowns through proper stock and rotation. Evening and weekend shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Ability to perform math calculations including percentages.
• Ability to learn cash register functions to generate reports.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and deposit control.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Good organization with attention to detail.
• Effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of safety policies and practices.
• Ability to follow plan-o-gram and presentation guidance.
• Willingness to obtain required food handling certifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in maintaining financial integrity through cash accountability and security practices.
• Follow SOPs, handbook, and communications.
• Train associates in perishable presentation, freshness, and pricing standards.
• Train associates in safe food handling.
• Stock and rotate perishable products.
• Record perishable markdowns and analyze causes.
• Record inventory levels and assist with customer requests.
• Maintain daily contact with customers to understand expectations.
