Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Lead to manage produce, dairy, meats, and bakery, ensuring inventory accuracy, appealing presentation, and strong customer service. You will assist the Store Manager with safe, compliant operations and asset protection.

You will supervise stocking, pricing, and markdowns, train associates in proper handling of perishables, and support store safety and sanitation standards to deliver a great shopping experience.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations and percentages.
• Ability to learn cash register functions and generate reports.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Familiarity with plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance.
• Willingness to obtain required food handling certifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in maintaining financial integrity through cash accountability and security practices.
• Follow store policies and SOPs; ensure staff compliance and accurate stock levels.
• Maintain perishable stock using daily tools (ads, order guides, sales history).
• Train associates on proper presentation, freshness, pricing, and safe food handling.
• Record inventory levels and manage customer requests promptly and professionally.
• Assist in compliance with sanitation standards and store-wide safety procedures.
