Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Manager to oversee Produce, Fresh Meat, Packaged Meats, Dairy, Frozen Foods and Bakery. You will ensure inventory accuracy, maintain appealing merchandise, and deliver quality customer service.

You will train staff, enforce food handling rules, and protect company assets while supporting store leadership. Responsibilities include managing perishable stock levels, ordering guides, markdowns, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of math operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and percentages.
• Experience with cash handling, cashier accountability and deposits.
• Ability to operate a cash register and handle monetary transactions.
• Understanding and application of safety policies and practices.
• Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
• Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandising guidance.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications in food handling.

Responsibilities

• Maintain correct perishable stock levels based on store volume and planning tools.
• Train associates in perishable presentation, freshness and pricing standards.
• Train associates in safe handling of food in compliance with regulations.
• Support hourly recovery and store standards through staff training and coaching.
• Assist in scheduling coverage to ensure adequate store staffing.
• Record Perishable Markdowns and analyze causes to prevent recurrences.
• Record inventory levels accurately and ensure sanitation standards are met.
• Assist in complying with Cleaning Schedule and perishable department procedures.
