Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Lead to oversee produce, dairy, meats, and bakery areas. You will assist the Store Manager with inventory accuracy, merchandising, and creating a safe, customer-friendly shopping environment.

You will train associates in proper stocking, food handling, and compliance with company policies, while ensuring freshness and quality across perishable areas. Prior supervisory experience in retail preferred; strong attention to detail a must.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret safety and operating instructions.
• Mathematical calculations including percentages and reports.
• Ability to learn cash register functions and generate reports.
• Understanding of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Willingness to obtain required food handling certifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in ensuring financial integrity and cash accountability.
• Follow company policies and SOPs as outlined in manuals and communications.
• Train associates in proper presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable areas.
• Train associates in proper and safe handling of food in compliance with regulations.
• Record inventory levels and perishable markdowns; analyze causes to prevent recurrences.
• Assist in ensuring customer needs are addressed efficiently.
