Job summary

Dollar General Store is seeking a Perishable Department Lead to manage the produce, meat, dairy, bakery, and related areas under the Store Manager. You will oversee stock levels, pricing, and quality, ensuring safe handling, compliance with policies, and profitable merchandising.

The role requires 1 year retail experience with at least 6 months in a supervisory capacity, plus food handling certifications where applicable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment and six months supervisory experience preferred.
• Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.
• Attainment of required local and state food handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in ensuring financial integrity through cash accountability and security practices.
• Maintain correct perishable stock levels using produce, meat, dairy, bread, and bakery workflows.
• Train associates in proper presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable areas.
• Record inventory levels and perishable markdowns; analyze causes to prevent recurrences.
• Ensure customers' needs and requests are addressed promptly and courteously.
• Support sanitation standards and train staff in perishable areas.
