Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Lead in Hot Springs, AR. You will supervise the perishables area—produce, meat, dairy, bakery—and support inventory, merchandising, and customer service. You’ll help ensure safety, policy compliance, and strong execution of plan-o-gram standards.

The role requires strong attention to detail, cash handling knowledge, and the ability to train associates in freshness, pricing, and safety practices. Prior retail supervisory experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment and six months supervisory experience preferred.
• Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.
• Attainment of required local and state food handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in ensuring the financial integrity of the store through cash accountability and adherence to cash control procedures.
• Follow company policies and procedures as outlined in SOPs, Employee Handbook, and communications.
• Maintain correct perishable stock levels based on store volume using tools such as Current Ads / Planners, Produce Order guide, and Milk Sales history.
• Train associates in proper presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for all perishable areas.
• Train associates in proper and safe handling of food in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
• Record Perishable Markdowns and analyze causes to prevent recurrences.
• Ensure customers' needs and requests are addressed efficiently.
• Maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and desires.
• Assist with sanitation standards and training in Perishable departments.
• Assist with other operational areas as directed by Store Manager.
