Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Leader to supervise produce, meat, dairy, and bakery areas under the Store Manager’s direction. You will help manage inventory, merchandise presentation, and customer service while protecting assets and ensuring safe operations.

You will train associates on freshness, pricing, and food handling standards, and ensure compliance with sanitation rules. Prior retail and supervisory experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
• Ability to learn and perform cash register functions to generate reports.
• Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense control opportunities, shrink and errors.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in maintaining financial integrity through cash accountability and security practices.
• Follow SOPs, employee handbook, and company communications.
• Maintain perishable stock levels using perishable planning tools and guides.
• Train associates in proper presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable areas.
• Record inventory levels and perishable markdowns; analyze causes and prevent recurrences.
• Ensure customers' needs are addressed promptly and courteously.
• Support compliance with sanitation standards and safety policies.
• Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
