Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Lead to oversee produce, meat, dairy, bakery and related areas. Under Store Manager supervision, you will drive product freshness, pricing, and compliance with safety standards while protecting assets and maintaining inventory accuracy.

You will train associates in proper stocking, shrink control, and perishable handling, while delivering friendly service and efficient operations in a fast-paced retail environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment and six months supervisory experience preferred.
• Attainment of required local and state food handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager with cash accountability and security practices.
• Follow SOPs and company communications in daily operations.
• Maintain correct perishable stock levels using tools like current ads/planners and order guides.
• Train associates in proper presentation, freshness and pricing standards for perishable areas.
• Train associates in safe handling of food and proper stocking/rotation of perishables.
• Record perishable markdowns and analyze causes to prevent recurrences.
• Ensure inventory levels are accurately recorded and reported to Store Support Center.
• Maintain customer service standards and address customer needs efficiently.
