Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare in Fredericksburg, VA seeks a Surgical Technologist to support the OR team. You will assist in preparing rooms, passing instruments, and maintaining sterile technique throughout procedures, under supervision of the Specialty Coordinator/Registered Nurse.

Qualifications include OR tech program completion, BLS, and 1 year of cardiac OR experience. Certification and Virginia registration are required within defined timelines; weekend and evening shifts may apply.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
• Graduate of OR Technology, Surgical Scrub Tech, or Surgical Technology program.
• 1 year Cardiac Operating Room experience required.
• For internal associates: CBOT competency training within 9 months of placement.
• Must become a Certified Surgical Technologist within 6 months of hire.
• Virginia Board of Medicine registration as Surgical Technologist required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with care team to form the patient’s plan of care and achieve outcomes.
• Communicates safe therapeutic care throughout the perioperative experience.
• Prepares OR rooms with instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment; follows aseptic technique.
• Drapes patients and assists the surgical team during procedures.
• Assists in turnover of room between cases.
• Provides input for physician preference cards per surgeon request.
• Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
• Participates in infection control and quality improvement programs.
• Demonstrates communication, customer service, and teamwork.
• Keeps professional growth and development as a focus.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
