Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a nonprofessional patient care associate to support the nursing team in surgical/procedural settings. Responsibilities include pre/intra/postoperative tasks, aseptic preparation, patient transport, equipment sanitation, and inventory management.

Requirements include a high school diploma, PCA orientation, and BLS/HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days. Prior patient care and CNA/MA experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Successful completion of departmental clinical support or PCA orientation.
• Obtain BLS/HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative support for surgical/procedural patients under RN supervision.
• Use aseptic technique to open sterile supplies and assist with prep; maintain clean work areas.
• Transport patients; assist with transfers and positioning; clean transport devices.
• Retrieve and clean patient care equipment; run errands as directed.
• Review stocking lists and inventory to ensure supplies are available for care.
• Maintain inventory control and proper case/cart organization.
• Assist with keeping procedural areas clean, organized, and safe; document PPE use.
• Transport non-narcotic medications as directed by RN; assist with pumps as needed.
• Clean autoclaves and sterile processing areas; support instrument processing tasks.
• Document activities in logbooks; assist with room setup and post-case cleanup.
