Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a Per Diem Phlebotomist to support laboratory collections across Boston locations, including Milk St. and Berkley St. sites.

Responsibilities include blood and non-blood specimen collection, verification of orders, and accurate labeling in a fast-paced lab environment. You will join a patient-centered team with a focus on quality, safety, and patient experience, with on-call coverage Monday–Friday during business hours.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (or higher).
• Phlebotomy Technician certification preferred.
• Previous phlebotomy experience or externship preferred.
• American Heart Association BLS certification preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology beneficial.
• Experience with LIS/EMR systems advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens via venipuncture, capillary, and other approved methods.
• Collect non-blood specimens (urine, sputum) as required.
• Verify test requisitions and label accuracy before sample collection.
• Prepare equipment and ensure sterile,Safe handling of specimens.
• Identify patients and explain procedures to reduce anxiety.
• Process, accession and route specimens for testing.
• Perform waived or moderate testing as needed and maintain QC procedures.
• Maintain clean work area and restock supplies.
• May assist in training interns and new staff.
