Job summary

UnitedHealth Group in Boston is seeking a Lab Associate to collect blood and non-blood specimens, communicate test information, and prepare samples for processing. The role supports the Laboratory department at 147 Milk St., Boston, MA, with a part-time schedule of 20 hours per week (Mon-Fri, 8am-12pm).

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, preferred phlebotomy training and PBT certification, and prior phlebotomy experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduation from a Phlebotomy Technical Training Program preferred.
• Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification preferred.
• Experience in phlebotomy and patient care is valued.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood specimens for laboratory testing using venipuncture, capillary, and other compliant techniques.
• Collects non-blood specimens such as urine or sputum as needed.
• Verifies test orders and labels; communicates with staff to resolve discrepancies.
• Assembles supplies and prepares specimens for processing.
• Identifies patients and explains procedures to reduce anxiety.
• Documentation and specimen processing per lab SOPs.
• Assists with basic testing and instrument maintenance as assigned.
• Keeps work area clean and restocked; may perform receptionist duties.
• Complies with PPE, safety protocols, and biosafety requirements.
• Adheres to all policies and participates in training.
