Job summary

North Shore Medical Center is seeking a Per Diem Patient Access Clerk to join our admissions team. Welcome patients, verify identities, collect demographics and insurance details, and enter information into the hospital system to maintain smooth patient flow.

You will educate patients on financial responsibilities, ensure HIPAA compliance, follow hospital policies, and collaborate across departments to deliver courteous, accurate service in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes patients, visitors and escorts patients as necessary and consistent with customer service guidelines.
• Verifies patient's identification and accurately assigns/identifies medical records.
• Collects and verifies all patient demographics and insurance eligibility and enters data into the hospital systems to facilitate patient flow.
• Interviews patients at bedside as needed to facilitate timely and effective solutions.
• Educates patients on financial responsibilities; identifies self-pay patients and potential solutions; processes residuals.
• Ensures adherence to hospital policies, SOPs, and HIPAA compliance.
• Meets performance standards in registration quality, confidentiality, and customer service.
• Collaborates with colleagues across Patient Access and other departments.
