Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Good communication and customer service skills with a pleasant, clear speaking voice.
• Must have good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
• One year of hospital or health care experience in registration or business office environment preferred.
• Must demonstrate knowledge and use of applicable software applications.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary receptionist for all incoming patients to the department.
• Maintain excellent customer service, addressing needs of patients, families, visitors, and staff.
• Check patients in/out, print visit summaries and appointment cards as needed.
• Enter data into EMR modules and verify demographic/insurance information.
• Review orders for accuracy and completeness.
• Place patients on ED Tracking board and monitor orders.
• Verify insurance coverage with AccuReg and notify departments as needed.
• Obtain and witness signatures on consent to treat and required documents.
• Scan insurance cards and relevant documents for the medical record.
• Refer payment problems to financial counselor and collect co-pays per EMTALA.
• Reconcile cash drawer and attach referrals to appointments.
• Handle all incoming calls and paging tasks as required by facility.
• Monitor alarms and security systems; assist with emergency paging when needed.
• Cross-train and assist coworkers during slow periods.
