Job summary

Putnam Hospital Center is seeking a Per Diem Patient Access Clerk to facilitate smooth patient flow from scheduling through registration check-in. The role involves collecting demographic and financial information, verifying eligibility, and providing estimates of services.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, handling calls, scheduling, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA and hospital policies. Working hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum Experience of 1 year preferred in a job-related experience.
• Basic MSWord & MSExcel.Customerserviceandorganizationalskills.
• Criteria Desired: NAHAM certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and staff promptly and professionally; assist with check-in and direction based on appointment location and confidentiality.
• Respond to telephone inquiries; provide information and improve call metrics.
• Search and select patient in hospital system to maintain EMPI integrity and accurate identification.
• Schedule appointments following protocol; contact patients to confirm details as needed.
• Enter demographic and financial information to aid in securing payment for services rendered.
• Verify insurance eligibility and obtain billing information and authorization.
• Provide service cost estimates and actively solicit patient liability.
• Enter testing orders when necessary and follow coding and charge description master protocols.
• Obtain signatures for required consents and notifications.
• Maintain compliance with department policies (HIPAA, EMTALA, Patient Bill of Rights).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
