Job summary

UNC Health Care's Caldwell Memorial Hospital in NC is seeking a Nursing Assistant I to support professional caregivers, transport patients and equipment, and maintain patient rooms.

The role includes clerical tasks, patient care per plan, vital signs, preparing and restocking supplies, and helping with education. Requires high school diploma or GED; NC Nursing Assistant I licensure and BLS; 12 hours weekly with a variable schedule.

Qualifications

• Must be fluent in verbal and written English language.
• Capability to develop computer skills if not competent.

Responsibilities

• Assists physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies.
• Critically reviews patient care documentation noting significant changes and reports to nurse or physician.
• Performs clerical tasks: organize workload, greet visitors, research information for nurses/physicians, review and revise orders, answer phones and transcription of orders, maintain medical records, conduct PI audits and data entry.
• Provides clinical support: clean work area, maintain equipment, troubleshoot software/hardware issues, change linens, check inventory, restock supplies, transport patients and specimens, orient new staff and students.
• Provide direct personal care per care plan: bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation, measure vital signs, height/weight; may collect specimens and assist with wound care.
• Reinforce patient education and document understanding; distribute educational materials.
