Job summary

Code Metal, Inc. is expanding its People team in Boston, MA. We are seeking a People Operations Generalist to own onboarding, offboarding, benefits, and compliance, ensuring accurate HRIS data and auditable processes across all states including MA and CA.

You will report to the Director of People Operations and collaborate with Recruiting, Finance, IT, and Security to scale our programs as we grow. This role emphasizes building repeatable, automated workflows and transparent reporting.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in People Operations or HR generalist roles, including time at a fast growing startup
• Hands on experience running core HR/People operations on a PEO or HRIS
• Working knowledge of U.S. employment compliance across multiple states, including Massachusetts & California
• You've run execution for at least one people program end to end, such as open enrollment, a review cycle, or an onboarding program
• Comfort in Google Sheets, reconciling data across systems and building reports, and storytelling with data
• Strong judgment and discretion with confidential information, including knowing when to follow a policy and when to flag an exception
• Excellent verbal & written communications and a warm, clear, and accessible communication and employee engagement style.

Responsibilities

• Own onboarding, offboarding, job changes, and background checks from signed offer to last day. Keep Justworks and our employee roster accurate.
• Run the operating side of our twice a year feedback cycle, compensation reviews, and new hire onboarding: timelines, manager packets, reminders, and the follow through that closes each cycle cleanly.
• Be the first stop for benefits questions, run open enrollment and benefits execution, and manage leaves of absence.
• Own I-9s, required postings and trainings, state registrations, and handbook and policy updates; partner with Security and Facility Security Officer for compliance.
• Help evaluate the transition from PEO to HRIS, roll out new systems, and document automated workflows.
• Build and maintain headcount, org, and program reports.
• Answer employee and manager questions with discretion, document processes, notice patterns, and fix root causes.
