Job summary

NYC Department of Social Services is seeking a Staff Analyst Level II (People Data & Strategy Analyst) to provide data-driven insights for HR operations. The role focuses on analytics, dashboards, and strategic workforce initiatives within HRS and OLR leadership teams.

The position requires strong analytical skills, experience with data visualization tools, and the ability to collaborate across HR teams. Residency in NYC is required, with a commitment to public service and equity in HR programs.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a JD from a law school.
  • Bachelor’s degree + two years of professional experience in HR, budgeting, accounting, finance, management science, or related areas.
  • Associate degree + four years of professional experience as described above.
  • High school diploma + six years of professional experience as described above.
  • Combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the listed requirements; high school is required in all cases.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the Chief People Officer dashboard booklet monthly with data visualizations and insights for leadership.
  • Respond to ad hoc HR data requests and projects, gathering, validating, and analyzing data to provide clear recommendations.
  • Analyze workforce data on recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, discipline, leaves, retirements, and injuries to provide insights to leadership.
  • Design and produce data visualizations, reports, and executive presentations for senior leaders.
  • Develop training materials and instructional videos to support adoption of new processes and systems.
  • Conduct HR-focused research to identify process gaps and improve workflows.
  • Collaborate with HR teams and stakeholders to analyze workforce challenges and develop data-driven recommendations.
  • Coordinate and manage HR-related projects across functional areas.
  • Supervise and guide interns and temps to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
