Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC, seeks an experienced registered nurse for the Pediatric Transplant & Cellular Therapy (DCT 4A) unit. The role involves independent nursing care planning, execution, and documentation for a diverse pediatric population including transplant and oncology patients.

The position requires BSN, NC RN license, BLS, and at least 12 months of clinical experience. Full-time shifts are 7 a.m.–7 p.m. or 7 p.m.–7 a.m, with day/night rotation and 36 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited BSN program.
• Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience required.
• Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
• BLS certification required.
• Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing required.

Responsibilities

• Independently plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care using the nursing process in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
• Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on each patient’s baseline needs and response to care.
• Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the registered nurse as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
• Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
• Assist nursing personnel in delivering care and serve as a team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit, as assigned.
• Monitor the environment of care and initiate corrective action involving equipment and material resources.
• Maintain required competencies, identify learning needs, participate in professional development, act as a preceptor and support the development of staff and formal learners.
• Participate in clinical and operational performance improvement activities and perform other related duties incidental to the work described.
