Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
  • Three years of nursing experience is required.
  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
  • BCLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the clinical and operational leader for the Pediatric Medical/Surgical Unit, partnering with medical directors, Duke Children's leadership, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Integrate nursing and unit priorities into daily operations while driving quality improvement initiatives and fostering collaboration across disciplines to achieve optimal patient and family outcomes.
  • Support and promote a professional practice model that encourages staff participation, collaboration, and the use of current clinical and administrative best practices.
  • Advocate for patients, families, and staff while fostering communication, engagement, accountability, and positive organizational change.
  • Manage, supervise, and coordinate patient care operations on a 24-hour basis while ensuring compliance with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead staff development, coaching, performance management, professional growth, and mentorship initiatives that support exceptional patient outcomes.
  • Oversee quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention, operational efficiency, and resource management activities.
  • Direct workforce planning, budgeting, staffing, equipment and supply oversight, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support effective unit operations.
