Job summary

Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, seeks a Patient Care Technician to support an RN-guided care team in the Medical Specialties Clinic. You will help with admission duties, daily living activities, vital signs, and patient flow in a busy pediatric environment.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 1 year in a healthcare setting if possible, and CNA/EMT/CPCT certification plus BLS. Collaborative team care and safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (Required).
• 1 year in a healthcare setting if possible, in pediatrics.
• 1 semester clinical experience completed at an accredited school of nursing or military corpsman training (Preferred).

Responsibilities

• Patient Services – Admission: orienting family to use call lights, monitor and unit; set up monitor and alarms; perform vital signs.
• Patient Services – Daily Living: patient ADL’s incl. bathing, skin care, nutrition; tube feeding; skin creams; sample collection.
• Direct Patient Care: report pain and skin breakdown; assist with trach care, central lines; prep room for discharge; maintain patient flow.
• Monitor Surveillance: observe monitor deviations; follow monitor guidelines and dress code.
• Infection Control: hand hygiene before/after patient; clean equipment after use.
• Documentation: document vitals in nursing database and notify charge nurse.
