Job summary

UAB Medicine is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the CVICU Stepdown unit. The role supports bedside care during night shifts (7:00 pm – 7:00 am), working in UAB St. Vincent's East in Birmingham, AL.

Responsibilities include assisting with ambulation, ADLs, vitals, and basic technical tasks under supervision. Qualified candidates must have a High School diploma or equivalent and obtain BLS within 30 days of hire; minimum one year of relevant experience is required.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire date (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted).
• High School diploma equivalency required or 1 year of relevant experience.
• 1 year of cumulative job-specific experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation and mobility, incl. to recliners, halls, or to vehicles after discharge.
• Assist with activities of daily living and personal care.
• Report changes in patients' physical, mental, or emotional condition to nursing staff and document records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and organized; maintain medical equipment.
• Perform clinical duties as directed, such as oxygen setup, catheter care, pulse oximetry, specimen collection, and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their
  room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their
  vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as
  oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
