Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the CVICU Stepdown unit in Birmingham, AL. You will perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care under supervision, assist with ambulation, daily living activities, and transport as needed.

You will record vitals, monitor conditions, maintain clean rooms and equipment, and help with procedures such as oxygen setup, catheter care, and EKGs, reporting changes to the nursing team.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• High School diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Proficiency in basic clinical tasks and patient documentation essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation and activities of daily living.
• Record vitals and intake/output; communicate changes to nursing staff.
• Maintain clean, orderly rooms and properly handle medical equipment.
• Perform tasks such as oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, and EKGs.
• Assist with patient transport to vehicles as needed.
• Document necessary records accurately.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their
  room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their
  vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as
  oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
