Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL seeks a Patient Care Tech for Surgical Services. Responsibilities

• Performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assists operating room staff and anesthesia providers with patient care tasks.
• Monitors and cleans the surgical suite, disposes waste and cleans equipment.
• Transports patients, equipment, instruments, specimens and supplies.
• Lifts and positions patients, ensuring safety for patient and staff.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living as needed.
• Reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff and documents records.
• Performs technical tasks such as oxygen setup, pulse oximetry, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtains and records vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assists the operating room staff including the anesthesia providers with certain technical aspects of patient care.
• Monitors and controls the operating room environment. Cleans and disinfects the surgical suite
  and/or reusable equipment and supplies. Disposes soiled linen and solid wastes. Cleans
  anesthetizing location. Cares for ancillary anesthesia equipment.
• Transports patients, equipment, instruments, specimens and supplies.
• Lifts and positions patients according to practice standards. Demonstrates an awareness of patient and personal safety.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  Documents necessary records.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such
  asoxygen setup, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
