Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Per Diag Patient Care Technician to support the Telemetry Unit on a PRN Days schedule. The role focuses on patient ambulation, personal care, vital signs, and basic technical duties under supervision.

You will assist with oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry, EKGs, and documentation while ensuring patient safety and comfort in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job experience required.
• BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation and daily living activities.
• Assist patients in getting to vehicles after discharge.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff and document findings.
• Maintain patient rooms clean and organized; handle medical equipment.
• Perform basic clinical duties (oxygen setup, catheter care, pulse oximetry, EKGs).
• Record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Work Location: UAB St. Vincent's East

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their
  room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their
  vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as
  oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
