Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL, seeks a Patient Care Technician for the Telemetry Unit during daytime shifts at UAB St. Vincent's East.

You will join a mission-driven system delivering high-quality patient care and support across a leading academic medical center. In this role you perform basic patient care under supervision, assist with ambulation and daily living activities, and report changes to nursing staff.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation and mobility.
• Assist with personal care and activities of daily living.
• Report changes to nursing staff and document necessary records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and maintain medical equipment.
• Perform technical duties such as oxygen setup, catheter care, pulse oximetry, and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
