Job summary

Zeal, based in San Francisco, seeks an experienced payroll tax operations leader to serve as the go-to contact for customers during implementation, go-live, and product launches. You will report directly to the CEO and own customer-related tax processes end-to-end.

The role demands 6+ years in payroll tax operations (8+ total tech exp.), deep knowledge of tax laws, and strong communication to guide clients and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in payroll tax operations and compliance at tech companies (8+ total work exp).
• Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws and procedures.
• Ability to perform payroll tax reconciliation, filings, tax law research and more.
• Excellent communication to lead client calls on payroll tax compliance.
• Operational leadership to build and design processes from start to finish.
• Ability to research and explain complex tax laws to non-experts.
• Thrives in ambiguity with high autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Serve as operational/compliance partner to Tax Engineers, support team, QA to ensure payroll tax updates are researched and implemented.
• Build processes to improve payroll tax reconciliation and QA.
• Manage and train tax operations associates and payroll support team members.
• Lead payroll tax filing and payment motions.
• Communicate with tax agencies to resolve discrepancies in submissions.
• Prepare and review tax reports and forms.
• Answer client questions regarding their tax filings.
• Build and maintain internal tax operational processes for Zeal.
