Payroll Manager (m/f/d) - REMOTE

The Payroll Manager must be dedicated and industrious, committed to accuracy in all transactions. The successful candidate will coordinate, direct and manage all payroll preparation, processing, and distribution duties and will provide assistance to both internal and external customers when necessary. Responsible for a team of 16 persons in Germany and Austria.

This role can be filled remotely in Germany.

Your Main Tasks

  • Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits, and tax procedures to recommend and implement improvements for best practice operations.
  • Audit year-end declarations/statements, payroll balance sheets, YTD earnings, etc.
  • Communicate actively with Finance, Human Resources, etc., to review cross-departmental impacts and reconcile data sharing.
  • Ensure systems are set-up and updated to reflect our current employee base, including wages, benefits, and time-off, in line with contracts and legislation.
  • Manage the regular preparation of management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports (e.g., gross payroll, hours worked, PTO accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions).
  • Oversee compliance with statutory reporting and filing requirements, with a focus on SOX audit/compliance. Lead all internal and external audits.
  • Work on improving OU payroll processes and continuously update SOPs to ensure functionality is process-driven.
  • Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation. Review monthly executive payrolls and audit compensation, equity, mobility, etc., to avoid amendments or disruptions.
  • Maintain/retain payroll staff through recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.

Your Profile

  • 12+ years of payroll processing experience with a full understanding of end-to-end payroll processes.
  • Full understanding of Germany laws and regulations (Taxes, labor laws, Works Council).
  • 5+ years in management/leadership roles, supervising 8+ direct reports.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Understanding of equity to facilitate audits/reviews.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with various payroll software.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with local payroll taxes.
