The Opportunity

I’m hiring for a fast-growing construction tech startup that’s transforming how contractors manage their workforce. They’ve built a modern platform that simplifies payroll, compliance, scheduling, and time tracking — and now they’re looking for a Construction Payroll Specialist to bring deep domain expertise into the heart of the product.

This isn’t just a payroll processing role. It’s a chance to join a product-led environment where your knowledge directly influences what gets built. You’ll help shape the tools that make complex payroll workflows feel intuitive and scalable.

About the Role

You’ll work cross-functionally with implementation, product, and engineering teams — acting as the go-to expert on all things construction payroll. You’ll support customer onboarding, guide ERP/payroll integrations, and ensure that the platform reflects the real-world needs of contractors navigating union rules, certified payroll, and multi-state operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide customers through implementation, including union setup, certified payroll, and multi-state configurations
  • Act as the internal expert on payroll compliance, logic, and workflows
  • Support ERP and third-party payroll system integrations
  • Collaborate with engineering and product to flag bugs, validate features, and suggest improvements
  • Stay current on regulations (e.g. Davis-Bacon, prevailing wage, union requirements) and ensure platform alignment
  • Document internal processes, FAQs, and best practices
  • Contribute to feature testing and provide practitioner feedback during product development

What They’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of hands-on construction payroll experience (union, certified, and multi-state)
  • Familiarity with payroll systems like ADP, Paychex, QuickBooks, Sage, or Payroll4Construction
  • Experience supporting or implementing ERP, HRIS, or payroll platforms (Sage, Acumatica, Viewpoint, etc.)
  • Tech-forward, systems thinker who understands how back-end data powers user experience
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with both technical and non-technical teams
  • Bonus: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • Bonus: Familiar with Jira, Notion, Confluence, or similar tools

Why This Role?

  • Be the bridge between field expertise and product development
  • Step into a hybrid role that combines operations, systems, and product thinking
  • Work with a remote-first team that values autonomy, ownership, and curiosity
  • Make a real impact in a space ripe for innovation
