Job summary

Cactus Asphalt seeks an Estimator to prepare detailed cost estimates for projects, analyze plans and specs, and collaborate with project managers, clients, business development, and subcontractors to build accurate, competitive bids. You will quantify labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services while evaluating market conditions and price volatility to protect margins.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of estimating, construction, or related field.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications.
• Proficiency in estimating software (Bid2Win or HCSS) and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to understand the scope of work.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
• Analyze and quantify project requirements to produce accurate and competitive bids.
• Develop and prepare bid proposals, including detailed cost breakdowns and justifications.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, business development, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information for bids.
• Ensure bid proposals are submitted on time and in accordance with client requirements and specifications.
• Solicit quotes from subcontractors and suppliers; evaluate and negotiate proposals as needed.
• Monitor and track project costs against estimates to identify discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate records of estimates, bid proposals, and supporting documentation.
• Communicate with clients to clarify requirements and support negotiations.
• Review estimates for accuracy and adherence to standards.
