Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Transporter to support patient movement across the hospital. You will escort ambulatory patients, transport them by wheelchair or bed, and assist nursing staff with transfers while adhering to infection control practices.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Good inter-personal skills and a customer service orientation to maintain a collaborative, patient focused effort between Patient Transportation and other hospital departments.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 6 months of hire is preferred.
• Six months' experience in a hospital environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Escorts ambulatory patients and transports them by wheelchair, stretcher or bed with proper identification and handoff.
• Assists nursing staff in moving/positioning patients using lift devices and follows infection control procedures.
• Delivers beds, stretchers, cribs, and wheelchairs; cleans and sanitizes transport equipment and vehicles.
• Transports patient specimens and materials between departments per infection control guidelines.
• Maintains transport logs and coordinates with TDSS dispatch system; may assume dispatcher duties when trained.
