Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Transporter to move patients across the hospital, assist nursing staff, and support transport operations. You will be responsible for safely transporting patients, transferring supplies and equipment, and maintaining sanitation of transport gear.

The role requires reading and speaking English, strong interpersonal skills, and adherence to infection control protocols. A High School diploma is required; BLS and prior hospital experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Good interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation to support collaboration between Patient Transportation and hospital departments.
• Preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 6 months of hire.
• Preferred: Six months' experience in a hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Escort ambulatory patients and transport by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
• Assist nursing staff and lift tech with patient movement and positioning.
• Deliver beds, stretchers, cribs and wheelchairs; clean and sanitize transport equipment; maintain logs.
• Transport patient specimens, medications, X-ray films, and other items per infection control guidelines.
• Check E-cylinders for content and distribute throughout the hospital.
• Operate the TDSS dispatch system and maintain trip logs; assist in ED triage transport when needed.
