Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring a Patient Transporter to move patients within the hospital, assist nursing staff, and deliver supplies and specimens. You will ensure patient safety, verify patient IDs, and communicate handoffs to receiving units.

This role emphasizes customer service, teamwork, and adherence to infection control protocols in a busy Central Massachusetts hospital. There is a non-exempt status and a mixed shift schedule with hours from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS certification required within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Six months' experience in a hospital environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Escort ambulatory patients and transport by wheelchair, stretcher or bed with ID checks.
• Assist nursing staff with moving and positioning; use lift devices and PPE as needed.
• Deliver stretchers, beds, and wheelchairs; clean and sanitize equipment; log activities.
• Transport patient specimens and materials to labs and departments following infection control.
• Deliver medical records, pharmaceuticals, X-ray films, and other items as required.
