Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a patient access professional to manage registration, appointment scheduling, and insurance verification within a healthcare practice. You will greet patients, route calls, and ensure accurate data entry while supporting smooth patient flow.

Responsibilities include processing admissions, handling payments, and assisting with MyChart and referrals. The role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, with occasional travel to off-site locations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience in patient registration/healthcare preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Typing and computer skills, including 40+ WPM typing.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-9 coding preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage with staff and patients professionally.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to off-site locations.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments.
  • Enter scheduling information into the computer system accurately.
  • Process patients upon arrival for appointments.
  • Troubleshoot problems to maintain patient flow.
  • Inform supervisor of department and patient issues.
  • Process admission paperwork and verify demographics and insurance information.
  • Verify registration accuracy and reconcile lobby wait-time indicators.
  • Calculate patient liabilities and process payments.
  • Perform charge entry for external services as needed.
  • Schedule referrals and follow-up appointments.
  • Assist patients with online scheduling and MyChart.
  • Obtain referrals, authorizations, and pre-certifications as needed.
  • Pull and route patient charts per policy.
  • Verify prescription benefits in the EHR.
  • Refer patients to financial counselors and manage revenue-cycle data.
  • Report to Practice Manager/Supervisor.
  • Provide occasional coverage at other locations as needed.

Job description

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between patients and physician practices
  • Greet patients and community members respectfully and provide excellent customer service
  • Answer, route, and manage internal and external calls
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments and services
  • Enter patient scheduling information accurately into the computer system
  • Process patients upon arrival for appointments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly to maintain patient flow
  • Inform the supervisor of department and patient issues
  • Process admission paperwork and verify demographic and insurance information
  • Correct registration errors and record lobby wait-time indicators
  • Calculate patient liabilities, collect and process payments, and reconcile the cash drawer
  • Perform charge entry for external services as needed
  • Schedule referrals and follow-up appointments
  • Assist patients with online scheduling and MyChart
  • Obtain and track referrals for follow-up services
  • Obtain authorizations and pre-certifications for applicable procedures
  • Pull, file, maintain, and route patient charts according to office policy
  • Verify prescription benefits in the electronic health record
  • Refer patients to financial counselors and complete accounts in revenue cycle software
  • Report to the Practice Manager/Supervisor
  • Provide occasional coverage at other physician practice locations as needed
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Prior experience in patient registration/healthcare (preferred)
