Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System in New York seeks a Patient Coordinator I to greet patients and verify insurance, updating demographics in the practice management system. You may work in person or in a call center capacity and ensure accurate records for the physician.

You will verify insurance coverage, collect co-pays, schedule follow-ups, and handle HIPAA documentation while coordinating with staff to keep patients informed and records ready for visits.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• 1 year physician practice experience.
• On-site training provided.
• Experience in medical office with scheduling systems preferred.
• IDX/PM system experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients in person or by phone and update insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
• Assure that physician accepts insurance presented by patients and verify at arrival if needed.
• Communicate with staff regarding patient arrival and ensure medical records are available for the physician.
• Process/update HIPAA-related paperwork and other institutional forms as necessary.
• Collect or retrieve referrals or insurance authorizations as required.
• Review waiting room status and keep patients informed of wait times.
• Collect co-pays or receive payments and provide receipts per cash-control processes.
• May schedule follow-up appointments and provide guidelines for requesting medical records.
• May perform simple charge entry tasks or enter payments and prepare cash deposits.
• Perform in a call center capacity (Faculty Practice Associates) and answer phones to schedule appointments.
• Follow HIPAA and other regulations regarding PHI handling.
• May initiate reminder phone calls for next-day appointments.
• Perform other related duties.
